AI or I: Human Supervision Required | A Virtual Ethics CLE

Right Discovery Staff Writer

Join Right Discovery and CaseGuild for an Online Virtual Ethics CLE Hosted by the Orange County Paralegal Association

Artificial intelligence is changing the way legal professionals approach discovery, evidence analysis, and litigation preparation. AI can analyze documents in seconds, identify patterns across large volumes of information, summarize content, and help legal teams work more efficiently.

But as these capabilities become increasingly accessible, an important question remains: Who is supervising the AI, and who is responsible for the results?

That is the focus of an upcoming online virtual ethics CLE hosted by the Orange County Paralegal Association (OCPA), featuring Kevin M. Clark, CEO of Right Discovery, and Danny Thankachan, Esq., of CaseGuild.

AI Is Moving Fast. Ethics Still Matter.

This virtual CLE, “AI or I: Human Supervision Required,” will take a practical look at the ethical considerations that arise when generative AI becomes part of discovery and litigation workflows.

As legal professionals incorporate AI into their daily work, understanding what a tool can do is only part of the equation. It is equally important to understand its limitations, evaluate whether it is appropriate for a particular task, and maintain appropriate human oversight of its output.

During this one-hour online session, Kevin and Danny will explore the duty of technological competence, supervisory responsibilities surrounding AI-generated output, and the importance of selecting the right technology for the right task.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to consider practical questions such as:

• How should legal professionals evaluate an AI tool before relying on it?

• What does technological competence look like as AI continues to develop?

• What responsibility do legal professionals have for AI-generated analysis and output?

• How much human oversight is appropriate when AI is part of the workflow?

• How can legal teams determine which AI tool is best suited to a particular task?

• Where can AI improve efficiency, and where does human judgment need to take the lead?

• What should litigators consider before relying on an AI platform in a matter?

Rather than simply discussing what AI can do, this CLE will focus on what legal professionals need to understand before they put AI to work.

Convenient Online Access, Right From Your Desk

Because this is an online virtual CLE, attendees can participate from their office, classroom, home, or wherever they happen to be working that day. There is no commute or conference room required, making it a convenient way to earn ethics credit while taking part in an important conversation about the technology increasingly influencing legal practice.

Why This Conversation Matters

AI is already becoming part of legal workflows, from document review and analysis to research, investigation, and litigation preparation. As adoption grows, legal professionals must consider not only the potential efficiencies of these tools but also the ethical responsibilities that accompany their use.

The goal is not to avoid AI. Instead, legal professionals need to understand when a technology is appropriate, how it should be used, how its output should be evaluated, and when human judgment needs to take the lead. That balance between technology and human oversight is becoming increasingly important, particularly as AI tools continue to develop at a rapid pace. This CLE provides an opportunity to step beyond the hype and have a practical conversation about what responsible and defensible AI use looks like in the real world.
