Shining a Light on Hope: How the Life Preservers Project Champions Survivors Through Community, Advocacy & Heart

Right Discovery Staff Writer

Human trafficking is one of the most devastating human rights crises of our time—millions of individuals worldwide are impacted each year, often hidden in plain sight. In response to this painful reality, The Life Preservers Project (LPP) has spent more than a decade building a community dedicated to awareness, empowerment, and survivor healing.

Founded by Shana Pederson, The Life Preservers Project emerged from a simple but powerful idea: that change happens when people from different worlds unite for a shared purpose. Shana brought together influential voices from the arts and legal communities—two sectors uniquely equipped to shine light where darkness thrives. This collective now uses creativity, advocacy, education, and professional expertise to raise awareness about human trafficking and to support survivors as they heal, rebuild, and move forward with strength and dignity.

Today, Life Preservers Project continues to develop trauma-informed programs, collaborate with organizations that serve survivors directly, and advocate for systemic change that prevents exploitation before it starts. Their mission is grounded not just in raising awareness, but in creating tangible pathways toward long-term healing.

A Night With a Purpose

Right Discovery is honored to sponsor the 2025 Hope for the Holidays Charity Fundraiser, taking place on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Palma Verde in New York City. This festive annual event brings together partners, supporters, artists, advocates, and community leaders for an evening of meaningful connection and celebration.

This year’s event also includes a toy drive benefiting Toys for Tots, spreading warmth and joy to children who deserve a holiday full of hope.

Support That Lasts Beyond One Night

While Hope for the Holidays is a powerful moment of togetherness, The Life Preservers Project’s work continues long after the decorations come down. The fight against human trafficking requires year-round commitment, and there are many meaningful ways to be part of the solution.

You can volunteer your skills, collaborate as a community or corporate partner, participate in educational events, or contribute donations that fuel LPP’s trauma-informed programs. Every hour, every connection, and every dollar helps provide survivors with essential resources, emotional support, and opportunities to reclaim their stories.

Because when we stand with survivors—not just for one night, but for every day that follows—we help build a world where healing is possible and freedom is protected.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen when people come together with purpose. By supporting The Life Preservers Project throughout the year, you help build a future where every survivor has the resources, community, and opportunities they deserve.

There’s still time to RSVP for the event or make a donation! We hope to see you there!
